Loire Mansion Ohashi: A Renovation Project in Fukuoka That Invites Residents to Craft Their Own Lifestyle

A renovation project called "Loire Mansion Ohashi" has been unveiled in the Minami Ward of Fukuoka City. Handled end-to-end by Local Design Co., Ltd.—from property acquisition and planning through design, construction, and sales—the project takes a holistic approach to reimagining what a renovated condominium can be.

Rather than simply refreshing fixtures or interior finishes, the project involves a significant reconfiguration of the floor plan, aiming to create a home where residents actively shape their own living experience.

Concept: A Home That Deepens Time with Yourself

The guiding concept behind Loire Mansion Ohashi is "A Home That Deepens Time with Yourself." Rather than fitting daily life around pre-set layouts and functions, the design prioritizes open-ended space—what the team describes as "margins"—that residents can interpret and arrange according to their own preferences and routines.

The philosophy can be summed up in one phrase: "crafting your own lifestyle." The idea is that a home shaped by its resident's intentions naturally becomes a richer, more personal environment over time.

Three Design Principles

Renovation detail – curved walls

Renovation detail – garden connection

Renovation detail – indoor-outdoor flow

1. An Earth-Floor Entryway (Doma) That Expands the Possibilities of Living

A spacious earthen-floor area (doma) extends from the entrance into the interior. Rather than assigning a fixed function to this space, it serves as a creative foundation—usable as a workshop, a place to welcome guests, or any arrangement the resident envisions.

2. Curves That Embrace

Curved architectural elements are woven throughout the design. While partitions exist, their rounded forms eliminate hard corners, creating a sense of visual depth and openness. These curves also subtly guide movement through the space, lending a gentle rhythm and warmth to everyday life.

3. A Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection

The unit includes a private garden, which has been integrated into the living space as a natural extension of the interior. The design draws sightlines outward toward the garden, effectively expanding the living area beyond the walls. The blurring of the boundary between inside and outside is intended to bring a sense of spaciousness and natural scenery into daily routines.

Designer's Note

The architect behind the project describes the approach as follows: rather than subdividing space into more rooms, the goal was to create a composition where different aspects of daily life flow into one another—how morning light enters, the step out to the garden, an evening spent with someone. The home is intended to be a "vessel" that draws out the resident's individuality and nurtures a life lived on their own terms.
