MOS Burger launches two limited-edition burgers featuring double slices of Kumamoto-grown tomatoes at 18 stores across Kumamoto Prefecture from January 17 to February 2, 2026, celebrating the traditional "Winter Doyo no Hitsuji Day" custom of eating red foods for good fortune.
The Tradition Behind the Burgers
While "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" in summer is widely known for eating eel, the "Doyo" period actually occurs four times a year, marking the transition between seasons. The winter Doyo period falls from January 17 to February 3, 2026, occurring just before "Risshun" (the beginning of spring).
Within this period, days that correspond to the zodiac sign "Hitsuji" (sheep) are called "Hitsuji no Hi" and occur every 12 days. The 2026 Winter Doyo no Hitsuji days fall on January 21 and February 2. According to tradition, eating red foods like tomatoes and strawberries, or foods with names containing the "hi" sound, brings good luck during this time.
MOS Food Services is participating in this campaign in collaboration with JA Kumamoto Keizairen, supporting their initiative to raise awareness of the "Winter Doyo no Hitsuji Day" tradition.
Featured Burgers with Double Tomatoes
The two new burgers are part of MOS Burger's "New Tobikiri" series, which uses patties made from 100% Japanese beef (the beef content in the patties is 100% domestic). Both burgers feature two generous slices of Kumamoto-grown tomatoes for a juicy, voluminous experience.
New Tobikiri Jumbo Tomato MOS Vegetable Cheese Burger (¥880)

This burger layers Kumamoto tomato slices with a 100% Japanese beef patty and sliced cheese, topped with lettuce, sliced onions, and another layer of Kumamoto tomatoes. The burger is dressed with half-calorie mayonnaise and aurora sauce, delivering a satisfying vegetable-forward flavor.
Notes:
- The cheese is heat-processed at the factory
- The sauce uses tomato ingredients that are not from Kumamoto Prefecture
New Tobikiri Jumbo Tomato Chili Burger (¥880)

This spicier option combines Kumamoto tomatoes with a 100% Japanese beef patty and sliced onions, complemented by another layer of Kumamoto tomatoes. The Japanese-style BBQ sauce and hot chili sauce add a spicy kick that enhances the natural sweetness of the tomatoes.
Notes:
- The sauce uses tomato ingredients that are not from Kumamoto Prefecture
