A new music archive project is set to launch at MUSIUM, a record bar in Roppongi, Tokyo. DJ Muro — widely known as Japan's "King of Diggin'" — visited the USEN record library for the first time and spent two full days digging through its archive of over 100,000 records to hand-pick a special selection for a one-night listening event.
The project is titled "MUSIUM MUSIC ARCHIVES Vol.1." The USEN record library, which is part of U-NEXT Holdings, has accumulated a vast collection of records and CDs over decades of Japan's music broadcasting history, with a focus on domestic and international releases from the 1960s to the 1990s. The entire digging process — Muro sifting through records, picking them up, and selecting each one — was captured on film by culture media platform McGuffin, with the resulting documentary scheduled for release in early June 2026.

MUSIUM MUSIC ARCHIVES
MUSIUM MUSIC ARCHIVES is an ongoing original content series by MUSIUM. The project invites artists, DJs, creators, and cultural figures to revisit their musical roots and sensibilities through the medium of records, bringing the experience to life within the MUSIUM space.
The series aims to deepen the storytelling around the global "record bar culture" that has been attracting growing attention in recent years, presenting it both domestically and internationally. For its inaugural volume, DJ Muro — a long-standing figure in record culture, hip-hop, and Black music digging — was chosen for a historic encounter with the USEN record library.
Event Details
The records that DJ Muro selected from his two days of digging will be played live at MUSIUM in Roppongi. The evening goes beyond a standard DJ event: attendees will learn the story behind each choice — why Muro picked that particular record from over 100,000 options, and what drew him to it — before experiencing the music in MUSIUM's carefully curated bar environment.
