Ikebukuro's Hidden Kakigori Specialty Shop Nanaka Opens for Its 7th Season Starting Golden Week 2026

A Taiwanese-style kakigori (shaved ice) specialty shop called "Nanaka" is set to open inside Kin no Kura Ikebukuro Sunshine Street for the 2026 season, starting April 29, 2026 (Wednesday, public holiday) at 1:00 PM. Now in its 7th year since opening in 2020, the shop operates as a shop-in-shop within the restaurant, offering a calm Japanese-style space to enjoy cool summer treats.

A Tranquil Japanese Space for Melt-in-Your-Mouth Sweets

Since its launch in 2020, Nanaka has welcomed guests every summer season. In 2026, with summer heat arriving earlier each year, the shop is starting earlier than usual — kicking off from Golden Week — and will run through the peak of summer. Operating hours are limited to the hottest part of the afternoon: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the same as last year.

Taiwanese-Style Kakigori: As Rich as Ice Cream

Unlike traditional Japanese shaved ice, which pours syrup over plain ice, Nanaka uses the Taiwanese style — the ice itself is flavored with milk, syrup, or other ingredients before being shaved. The result is a smooth, creamy texture reminiscent of eating ice cream. Even as the ice melts, the flavor stays consistent right through to the last bite.

Five Flavors for 2026

Condensed Milk Strawberry

The shop's most popular flavor. Ice made with 50% strawberry juice and fruit pulp is shaved into soft ribbons, delivering a juicy, rich taste as if eating a fresh strawberry. Topped with fluffy whipped cream, condensed milk, and strawberry pieces, the sweet-and-tangy combination is irresistible.

Pure White (Milk × Yogurt)

A refreshing option with a smooth, pleasant mouthfeel. Made from milk ice using Shinshu Komagane Highland "Suzuran" milk, this bowl is crowned with yogurt whipped cream — like clouds hovering over a snowy mountain peak — and topped with fluffy marshmallows. Pure white in appearance, but surprisingly deep in flavor.

Rich Uji Matcha Kintoki

A classic beloved for its elegant sweetness. The ice itself is made with first-flush tea ground on a stone mill, allowing the full depth of matcha to come through. Soft adzuki bean paste and matcha's pleasant bitterness work beautifully together, served alongside shiratama rice dumplings with optional black sugar syrup to taste.

Rich Zunda Milk (New for 2026)

The newest addition to the lineup. Made with zunda (edamame paste) crafted to highlight the natural flavor of the beans, blended with smooth milk. The aroma of toasted edamame fills your mouth at first bite, followed by a creamy, ice cream-like melt. The natural, earthy richness of the beans lingers pleasantly through every spoonful.

Pure Kissa Pudding

A rich, sweet flavor inspired by classic Japanese café pudding. Smooth custard and caramel sauce meld together in shaved ice form, recreating the comforting nostalgic taste of a retro diner dessert. Topped generously with caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry, this flavor evokes the warm atmosphere of a Showa-era coffee shop.
