Two matcha smoothie varieties are returning to Seven-Eleven convenience stores throughout Japan. The "Uji Matcha Smoothie" began rolling out in select regions from April 21, and the "Kaori Hirogaru Matcha Smoothie" (Aroma-Spreading Matcha Smoothie) follows from April 28. Both are part of the Seven Café Smoothie lineup and are priced at 389 yen (tax included: 420.12 yen).

The "Uji Matcha Smoothie" features matcha from Kitagawa Hanbee Shoten, a long-established tea merchant in Kyoto's Gion district with 165 years of history dating back to the first year of the Bunkyū era. The "Kaori Hirogaru Matcha Smoothie" uses matcha from Marushichi Seicha, a tea producer founded in 1907 in Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Both drinks stand out for their vibrant green color, rich flavor, and refined aroma, catering to both the global matcha trend and growing health-conscious lifestyles.

A Hit at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai and Last October's Nationwide Release

During Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, the Seven-Eleven outlets at the West Gate and Water Plaza locations sold more than 1,000 cups per day combined in the latter half of July, with the matcha smoothie ranking as the most popular item. When the improved recipe went on sale nationwide last October, it sparked enthusiastic reactions on social media, with comments such as "The matcha is so rich and delicious — I'll definitely be buying it again!", "I first tried it at the Expo and couldn't wait for the nationwide release!", and "The refreshing texture and authentic matcha aroma are the best!"
About the Tea Producers
Uji Matcha Smoothie: Kitagawa Hanbee Shoten (Kyoto)
Kitagawa Hanbee Shoten is a long-established tea merchant in Gion, Kyoto, founded in the first year of the Bunkyū era (1861). The company cultivates Uji matcha by shading the leaves from sunlight to concentrate their aroma and umami. Having won the top award at the National Tea Competition 11 times, the brand's Japanese tea café "Gion Kitagawa Hanbee" attracts both domestic tea enthusiasts and international visitors on a daily basis.
Kaori Hirogaru Matcha Smoothie: Marushichi Seicha (Fujieda, Shizuoka)
Marushichi Seicha is dedicated to every step of the tea process — from growing and cultivating tea leaves to processing and commercialization — with the goal of delivering tea that truly delights. The company expresses its commitment to a tea-centered lifestyle through the concept of "Meiha Saryo." In 1998, it became the first company in Shizuoka Prefecture to produce matcha.
Flash-Freezing Technology for Maximum Freshness

Seven Café Smoothies are made using fruit and vegetables that are flash-frozen to lock in freshness and flavor at their peak. Purées and other ingredients are also frozen using a proprietary technique to form ice cubes. A dedicated machine then blends each drink at a speed and duration tailored to each product, bringing out the full taste of the ingredients.
