Contemporary artist SHUN SUDO is collaborating with Ginza Sony Park for a large-scale exhibition, "ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO "HANA-MI"", held from Saturday, March 7 to Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Since his debut solo show in New York in 2015, SHUN SUDO has created vibrant, pop-inspired works with the intention of bringing energy and positivity to viewers. The reactions of visitors — smiling, and sometimes moved to tears — have fueled his creative practice ever since. His work has built connections not only with audiences but also with artists, companies, and brands both in Japan and abroad.
Marking the 10th anniversary of his career as an artist in 2025, SUDO decided to hold an exhibition themed around flowers in his home country of Japan. When considering the most fitting venue for this project, he chose Ginza Sony Park, a space with which he has collaborated on various initiatives. Ginza Sony Park's concept — creating connections between people and the city, and between people themselves, through activity and open space — aligns closely with what SUDO aims to achieve through his art.
March in Japan brings cherry blossoms in full bloom, along with the emotional milestones of graduation and new beginnings. Set in a park in the heart of Ginza, this exhibition is a project to share the Japanese culture of hanami — flower viewing — with the world through art.

Artworks exhibited in "ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO "HANA-MI"" are available for purchase. Come experience the latest works at Ginza Sony Park as a unique new way to enjoy hanami that can only be found here.

The landscapes I painted are those of flowers seen around the world.
Scenes I witnessed across the globe, and the flowers that bloomed brilliantly within them.
Those fleeting moments will never come again.
Through my paintings, I transform those moments, etched in my mind, into eternal landscapes.
From before the opening in 2025, I have worked with Ginza Sony Park on various initiatives.
Each time, I felt a deep resonance with this place.
Creating connections between people and the city, between people and people, through activity and open space.
That is one of the things I aim for through my own art.
This art exhibition, held in collaboration with Ginza Sony Park, feels like a great challenge in that sense.
Creating a space filled with paintings of flowers in a park in Ginza, where people gather from all over the world.
I wanted to express the wonderful Japanese culture of hanami in my own way.
If the landscapes that can only be seen here can move the hearts of the many people who visit Ginza, I would be truly happy. And if that emotional resonance becomes a small source of energy to get through the day, there is no greater joy for me as a painter.
SHUN SUDO
Exhibition Highlights
SHUN SUDO's iconic motif, the "BUTTON FLOWER" — a flower with four small holes at its center — carries the message: "Just as a button connects two pieces of fabric, I want to connect the hearts of people." Since his debut solo show "PAINT OVER" in New York in 2015, these vibrant flowers painted in acrylic have been beloved by many. The motif has led to collaborations with global companies such as SONY and PORSCHE, a charity T-shirt design for 24-Hour Television (Nippon Television, 2023), and the worldwide release of the BUTTON FLOWER BLOSSOMS capsule collection in collaboration with French maison brand CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN.
On the 3rd and 4th floors of the venue, more than 35 new oil paintings created since 2024 will be on display, along with sculpture works produced at the GrandPalaisRmn (Grand Palais Rmn) Art Workshop* — available for purchase, with some non-sale items. In the basement 2nd floor, new silkscreen prints, tote bags designed with floral art, and exclusive BE@RBRICK (Bearbrick) figures on early release will be on sale, along with other limited-edition original goods. In addition, the casual Western-style dining restaurant "1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)" on the basement 3rd floor will offer a limited-time special collaboration menu themed around flowers.

About SHUN SUDO

Born in Tokyo in 1977, contemporary artist SHUN SUDO is currently based in Tokyo. Having moved to the United States in his twenties, he traveled the world and taught himself artistic techniques along the way. SUDO's art practice, centered on painting, is composed of multiple diverse elements: influences inherited from Japanese and American pop culture and street culture — skateboarding, graffiti, manga, and anime — that deeply shaped him as he grew up; inspiration drawn from traditional Japanese painting and ink painting rooted in Japan and East Asia; and elements taken from past art movements and currents in Western modern and contemporary art history, such as Impressionism and Fauvism.
In SUDO's works, these elements coexist in a way that, while maintaining their distinctiveness, comes together in a surprisingly harmonious manner. In this sense, his artwork embodies the possibility of a new "fine art" that transcends the binary opposition of "high art" and "low art." In his paintings, which at first glance seem to follow the lineage of pop art, SUDO imbues his iconic motif, the "BUTTON FLOWER," with positive messages. By combining this motif with various images, he aims to bring positive change to society — incorporating a unique perspective on social transformation that is often absent from conventional "pop art."
Primarily working in acrylics characterized by distinct brushstrokes, he recently resumed oil painting — a medium he briefly explored in childhood — and is establishing his own unique style, exploring color and line expressions in oil painting that carry a depth and dimensionality distinct from acrylic work.
