Taiwan castella specialty shop Tailaku Tangao (台楽蛋糕) is setting up a limited-time pop-up at the "Sweets Box" section of Sotetsu Life, located on the 2nd floor of Mitsukyo Station on the Sotetsu Line. The event runs from April 7 (Tuesday) to April 13 (Monday), 2026, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily.

What Is Taiwan Castella?

Taiwan castella is a homestyle cake long enjoyed in Taiwan, known locally as "現烤蛋糕" (Xian Kao Dangao), meaning "freshly baked cake." Cut into generous slices, it features a fluffy texture and a gentle sweetness that makes it suitable not only as a snack but also as a light breakfast option.

Tailaku Tangao first opened at Tokyu Plaza Ginza on March 12, 2021, drawing a crowd that stretched all the way to Ginza Station on the Tokyo Metro on opening day. Since then, the shop has built a loyal repeat customer base and has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Nippon TV programs ZIP, Hirunandesu, and 1 Oku 3000 Man-nin no SHOW Channel, Fuji TV's Mezamashi TV, and BS Asahi's Teiban Times, as well as the Yomiuri and Sankei newspapers and magazines such as GINGER and Hanako.

Premium Castella Series

Tailaku Tangao's signature lineup features flavors crafted using high-quality Japanese ingredients.

Premium Plain

Slowly baked in a dedicated oven, this plain castella delivers a fluffy, moist texture with a mild flavor that appeals to all ages.

Premium Cheese

Rich cheddar cheese is layered inside the dough, and Parmesan cheese powder is sprinkled on top for a savory aroma and crispy finish. The milky character of the cheese pairs with the castella's moderate sweetness in a distinctive combination.

Premium Uji Matcha

Using a proprietary baking method that locks in the full flavor of the matcha, this variety delivers a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture with the taste of traditional Japanese green tea.

Premium Chocolate

Cacao powder is mixed into the dough before baking, and chocolate chips are added on top. The result is a rich combination of chocolate sweetness and a hint of bitterness.

Premium Earl Grey

Earl Grey tea leaves, flavored with bergamot from the citrus family, are generously kneaded into the castella dough, creating a richly aromatic treat.

Premium Burnt Butter Vanilla Sugar

Based on the Premium Plain, this flavor features a concentrated butter aroma with a caramelized burnt butter finish, topped with luxurious vanilla sugar.

Half & Half Sets

Half-and-half sets are available, pairing Premium Plain with one flavored castella. Five combinations are offered:

Premium Quarter Series

In response to requests from customers who found the full size too large to finish on their own or wanted to try multiple flavors, the Premium Quarter set is available with four flavors—Plain, Cheese, Chocolate, and Uji Matcha—each taking up one quarter of the box.

A new-concept dessert that combines fluffy Taiwan castella with pudding, available in four flavors: Plain, Uji Matcha, Chocolate, and Earl Grey.
