Maison Telmont, the Champagne house handled in Japan by Remy Cointreau Japan (Minato-ku, Tokyo; General Manager Xavier Tallot), is holding a one-night-only special event, "TELMONT Champagne Rooftop Okuribi Night," at the Rooftop Lounge of Six Senses Kyoto on Sunday, August 16.
Guided by the philosophy "In the Name of Mother Nature," Maison Telmont has spent more than a century and four generations engaging seriously with the natural world in its Champagne-making. Six Senses Kyoto, a nature-inspired luxury resort offering wellness experiences in harmony with nature and its surrounding community, shares a similar respect for sustainability. Drawing on this common ground, the two brands have come together for this special one-night event.
The event offers free-flow pours of Telmont Brut alongside three signature Champagne cocktails, to be enjoyed in the open-air setting of the Rooftop Lounge on the fourth floor of Six Senses Kyoto.
Food comes in the form of a finger-food-style semi-buffet designed to pair with the Champagne, featuring dishes built around seasonal ingredients and Kyoto's food culture — including a sweet shrimp, cucumber, and fermented lemon tart, and a summer mizu-kimchi made with Kyoto vegetables — crafted to complement Telmont's delicate flavor.
The event falls on the night of Kyoto Gozan Okuribi, the bonfire lighting that marks one of the city's summer highlights. From the rooftop overlooking the cityscape, the view shifts from a sunset-lit skyline to a night view punctuated by the glow of the bonfires, giving guests a chance to enjoy nature-minded Champagne and seasonal cuisine amid the scenery — a Kyoto summer experience with all five senses that can only be had here.

About Maison Telmont
Champagne Telmont has been based in Damery, near Épernay in France, ever since it was founded in 1912 by Henri Lhôpital in the aftermath of the Champagne riots. For more than a century since, the house has been a pioneer within the Champagne industry. While staying true to both innovation and the tradition of excellence it takes pride in, Telmont is now working to bring about a new revolution in how it relates to the planet, practicing its own vision of crafting Champagne of unrivaled quality without compromising sustainability. This vision has been taking concrete shape since 2021 through the "In the Name of Mother Nature" project, which includes converting the house's own vineyards and those of partner growers to 100% organic regenerative farming (currently 70% organically certified), protecting biodiversity, and significantly cutting carbon emissions toward net zero by 2050.
Telmont has also discontinued gift boxes and unnecessary packaging, developed the world's lightest bottle (800 grams) in partnership with a longtime glass manufacturer, phased out clear bottles (which use no recycled glass) and custom bottles (900 grams and up), adopted transition glass (reusing the glass generated as bottle color gradually shifts toward clear during production changeovers), banned air freight entirely, and switched to renewable energy. The house is backed by investors who share its vision and values on the environment, including Rémy Cointreau, its majority shareholder and a full supporter of the house's commitment to sustainability and innovation; Leonardo DiCaprio, an investor and dedicated environmental activist; and Ludovic du Plessis, President of Maison Telmont.
The house's wines are known for a crisp, structured style, a balance of tension and freshness, and a delicate yet well-balanced acidity that leaves a long, memorable finish. Their distinct character comes from the paradox of a structured body paired with striking lightness. Made only from organically grown grapes, without herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, or chemical fertilizers, the cuvée "Réserve de la Terre (Organic)" embodies Telmont's manifesto and has been released every year since its 2023 debut, representing the future of Maison Telmont.
