Contemporary art gallery YUGEN Gallery will take part in WHAT CAFE EXHIBITION vol.39 Emerging Directors & Curators U40, a group show held at WHAT CAFE in Tennoz, Tokyo, from July 4 (Saturday) to July 20 (Monday, holiday), 2026.
The exhibition brings together 14 gallery directors and curators under the age of 40 who are active in the art industry. Each participant selects one artist and designs their own exhibition space. The works reflect the sensibilities of a generation shaped by themes such as digital nativity, globalization, diversity, and environmental issues.
This is the second installment of the series; the first edition was held in December 2024. WHAT CAFE has been creating opportunities for emerging artists to present and sell their work since its opening in 2020. The exhibition continues to serve as a platform for collaboration among the next generation of directors, curators, and artists.
YUGEN Gallery, represented by Mariko Hosoki, will present works by artist 今井恵.

今井恵's practice begins with the human errors — misprints — that arise through the physical act of silkscreen printing. Working through the repetitive process of printing plates, she generates unexpected images that probe the mechanisms of visual perception and cognitive experience. Her new works, centered on themes of "how to perceive things" and "choice of perspective," will be on view at this exhibition.
