Indonesian Batik Exhibition Opens at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace in Tokyo

An exhibition themed around "Batik," Indonesia's traditional textile art, is now open at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace (Forum Building F) in Tokyo. An opening event was held on April 15, 2026, with the exhibition running to the public from April 16 through May 17.

The exhibition was organized through a strategic collaboration between HIPMI Japan and Maneki Neko Production Indonesia (MANEKI NEKO Production), positioning itself as a new international partnership model that integrates culture and business.

At the pre-opening event, staff dressed in Indonesian traditional clothing welcomed guests, while Balinese traditional music provided an immersive cultural atmosphere. Indonesian students studying in Japan also performed live music, bringing a lively energy to the venue throughout the event.

The opening ceremony began at 6:00 PM with remarks from organizer Eric Iskandar, followed by representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Japan and various partner organizations. The shared vision of HIPMI Japan and MANEKI NEKO Production was highlighted as central to the event.

HIPMI Japan Director Teddy Modesto Situmorang unveiled the global expansion strategy for Indonesia's creative industry through collaboration with MANEKI NEKO Production. He described batik not merely as traditional craftsmanship, but as a "global asset" carrying both cultural and economic value, emphasizing the importance of strengthening its presence in international markets.

The partnership between the two organizations is expected to generate impact across the following areas:

  • Strengthening small and medium enterprises (UMKM) and cooperatives
  • Advancing green energy initiatives
  • Sustainable development in fisheries, aquaculture, and agritech
  • Building a digital-driven economic ecosystem

MANEKI NEKO Production plays a pivotal role by applying its creative production expertise to promote Indonesian cultural content internationally and maximize brand value.

Beyond raising global awareness of batik, the exhibition serves as a demonstration of an integrated "culture × business" model led by HIPMI Japan and MANEKI NEKO Production. The initiative also aims to strengthen ties among entrepreneurs, creators, and overseas communities to broaden access to global markets.

Going forward, both organizations plan to continue holding exhibitions, developing joint projects, and pursuing sustainable growth through digital initiatives.
