Biwako Hotel on the shores of Lake Biwa in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, is running its rooftop outdoor BBQ event "Hoshi" from July 1 (Wed) through September 30 (Wed), 2026. This year's lineup includes multiple BBQ plans — one centered on Shiga's prized Omi beef — as well as a brand-new "Lakeside Twilight Plan" featuring a champagne free-flow and tapas selection.

Three Highlights of Rooftop Outdoor BBQ "Hoshi"

1. A Front-Row Seat for Lake Biwa's "Magic Hour"

Situated on the 13th floor of the hotel at approximately 45 meters above ground, the open-air terrace looks out over the shimmering surface of Lake Biwa at dusk. Guests can enjoy BBQ and drinks while taking in the changing colors of the sky, along with the nightly light-up of the Biwako Hanafountain below.

2. BBQ with Shiga's Own Flavors — Including Omi Beef

The top-tier BBQ PLAN at ¥12,500 per person spotlights Omi beef rib roast — one of Japan's three major wagyu brands — alongside Omi Kuro chicken wings, Shiga Prefecture Kyukyu miso-marinated pork shoulder, and Ibuki Ham bacon. The menu also includes lake fish from Lake Biwa prepared ajillo-style, marinated Shiga-grown rainbow trout, homemade bagna cauda with funazushi rice koji and colorful vegetables, and a clay pot rice with Shiga's Ogi terraced-field rice topped with Omi beef simmered in soy-based sauce, red konjac, and pickled hina-na greens. A selection that draws from the unique local food culture of the region.

3. New: Lakeside Twilight Plan with Champagne Free Flow

A new "Lakeside Twilight Plan" at ¥10,000 per person pairs five tapas dishes with a 90-minute free-flow champagne package. The tapas include octopus and apple mango ceviche with lime and coriander, Shiga tomato caprese with jamón serrano, chilled roast beef with balsamic sec and truffle oil, shrimp and summer vegetables in herb garlic butter, and French fries taco style. The free-flow drinks also cover draft beer (Asahi Super Dry), BREWDOG, non-alcoholic beer, whisky, red and white wine, shochu, and a range of cocktails and soft drinks.
