A wine tasting event is set to take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Fairfield by Marriott Hiroshima Sera in collaboration with Sera Winery, a producer of Japanese wines made from 100% locally grown grapes in Sera Town, Hiroshima Prefecture. The event is open at no charge to guests staying at the hotel that evening.
Sera Town, situated on the Sera Plateau where the notable temperature difference between day and night makes it well-suited for fruit cultivation, has a long history as a fruit-growing area. Sera Winery sources its grapes exclusively from around 17 contract farming households in the area, maintaining a commitment to producing authentic Japanese wine without relying on imported concentrated juice. Sugar and acid adjustments are kept to a minimum so that each bottle reflects the natural character of the local terroir. Though a relatively new wine-producing area where grape cultivation began alongside the winery concept, the close collaboration between growers and winemakers gives Sera wines their distinctive depth and individuality.
The tasting will be led by Yasuharu Hata, the facility director and certified sommelier, who will guide guests through the flavor profiles, production methods, and stories behind each wine.
Two wines are on the menu for the day. The first is "Sera Wine Chardonnay Sparkling," crafted from 100% Sera Town-grown Chardonnay using the traditional méthode traditionnelle (bottle fermentation), featuring fine bubbles, gentle fruit flavors, and a light, elegant finish. The second is "Hyakka Semillon 2021," a white wine with a refreshing aroma, a delicate texture underscored by firm flavor, smooth richness, crisp acidity, and a pleasant lingering finish.
Grape juice is also available for children and those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages, making the event welcoming for families as well.

For those planning a visit, a podcast episode of "Tabi no Serendipity" — which began broadcasting in April 2026 — features Yuta Hashimoto, the head brewer at Sera Winery. It dives into the appeal of Sera Town and the winery, exploring the grapes nurtured by the plateau's environment and the dedication of the farmers and winemakers involved. Listening before the trip can add depth to the on-site experience.
