A new designer complex combining a hotel, restaurant, and hot spring is set to open on Shodoshima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, in autumn 2026. Named "Shimahaku / Shimameshi / Shimayu" (島泊 / 島飯 / 島湯), the facility is located just a one-minute walk from Tonosho Port and began accepting hotel and restaurant reservations on April 20, 2026.

Hotel — Shimahaku (島泊)
Shimahaku offers 31 rooms across 9 room types, ranging from 21㎡ to 63㎡. The rooms are designed to suit a range of travelers—from families looking for spacious accommodations to solo guests treating themselves, and couples celebrating special occasions. Each room type carries a distinct design character, allowing guests to choose a comfort style that suits their sensibilities.

2nd Floor Rooms
The second-floor rooms feature ceilings that reach 4.5 meters high. The open, expansive space is left largely unadorned — the raw structural frame of the building is exposed, with furniture placed freely within. A cypress bathtub sits at the window, unpartitioned and flush with the floor. The shower unit, a striking centerpiece of the room, casts a gentle glow reminiscent of a traditional paper lantern.

3rd Floor Rooms
The third-floor rooms are finished with rough-textured lychee-coat plaster and FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) typically used in boat hulls — materials more commonly found outdoors. Translucent FRP fixtures and tabletops add a sense of movement and translucency to the space. Guests are enveloped in soft beige tones throughout their stay.

Opening Commemorative Rates
To mark the opening, special introductory rates are available for reservations made through February 2027. Sample pricing:

Restaurant — Shimameshi (島飯)
Overlooking the harbor, the restaurant "Shimameshi" serves dishes centered on seasonal ingredients from Shodoshima and the broader Seto Inland Sea. Fish freshly caught in nearby waters and sun-ripened vegetables are sourced directly from trusted local producers, and prepared by cooks with deep knowledge of the region's flavors. The industrial aesthetic of raw concrete and steel coexists with warm tiles and timber, creating a distinctive dining atmosphere.
The restaurant is open to visitors who are not staying at the hotel.

Shimameshi Hours:
- Breakfast: 7:00 AM–9:00 AM (last order 9:00 AM)

Hot Spring — Shimayu (島湯)
The "Shimayu" hot spring draws from "Shio no Yu" (Salt Hot Spring), the first natural spring to be tapped on Shodoshima Island. Its waters are rich in sodium and magnesium — known for softening the skin and warming the body from the inside out — and have long been beloved by island residents. The facility also includes a Löyly sauna and a cold plunge pool, serving as a social gathering place for both locals and visitors alike.
The hot spring is open to non-overnight guests as well.

Activities and Other Experiences
In addition to water-based activities on the calm surrounding sea, the complex's location makes it a convenient base for experiencing the Setouchi Triennale, the internationally recognized contemporary art festival held across the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Original activities, rental cars, rental bicycles, and plaza events are also planned, offering guests a deeper look into island life beyond conventional sightseeing.
