Yumihari-no-Oka Hotel, a resort hotel near the summit of Yumiharidag in Sasebo, Nagasaki — overlooking the Saikai National Park and Kujukushima Islands — celebrated its 30th anniversary on April 26, 2026. To mark the occasion, Ai Group has launched a retort food series that brings the flavors of the hotel's restaurant and Zona ITALIA — an Italian restaurant group based in Hiroshima that has been serving customers across the Chugoku region since 1975 — straight to your home.

Background

The series was inspired by requests from Yumihari-no-Oka Hotel guests who wanted to recreate the hotel's dishes at home. After roughly two years of development and production, the products were refined to bring the quality of the restaurant's menu to retort form.

For the hotel's range, two curry varieties are available: "Classic Curry," which recreates the flavor served at the hotel, and an original product, "Beef and Miso Ultimate Curry." Zona ITALIA's contribution is a bolognese sauce rebuilt from the restaurant's longtime recipe, with a spicy edge designed to complement drinks.

Two curry varieties draw on the flavors long enjoyed at Yumihari-no-Oka Hotel. "Classic Curry" layers the sweetness of slowly sautéed onions and the acidity of tomatoes with a rich fruitiness, achieving a mellow yet deep flavor that appeals to a wide range of palates. "Beef and Miso Ultimate Curry" features hacho miso not merely as a secret ingredient but as a central element, drawing out the full umami of domestic beef for a dish with rich depth and a lingering spice finish. Both are crafted to pair well with rice.

Based on Zona ITALIA's long-standing bolognese recipe, this sauce has been adjusted for retort packaging to retain the richness of slow-simmered beef and the depth of ripe tomatoes. A hint of spice has been added to complement beverages. Beyond pasta, it works well in lasagna and gratin, pairing nicely with red wine or craft beer.

Concept

The series goes beyond simply selling food products. The concept is to let people "take home the time and memories they spent in that place" — whether it's a moment enjoyed alongside the sweeping views of Kujukushima, or the memory of a beloved dish at the restaurant. This series is designed to bring those experiences back into everyday life.
