Question

I'm going to Osaka! Do you have any recommendations for food souvenirs? I'm not really into sweets — I'd prefer something savory like a local snack or specialty food.

My top pick is the "Kansai Dashi Shoyu" flavored potato chips — they're only available in the Kansai region, so you can't get them in Tokyo! ✨

Kansai Dashi Shoyu potato chips

There are actually two versions from Calbee: the "Kataage Potato" (thick-cut and crunchy) and the regular "Potato Chips" type.
I discovered them about three years ago, and ever since then, I've bought them every time I visit Kansai. They're that good!

The Kataage version has a crispy, firm texture with a strong savory flavor, making it perfect with beer or a highball. 🍺
The regular version has a lighter, gentler taste that's dangerously easy to keep eating — you just can't stop!

Both are Kansai-only snacks, and you can find them at local supermarkets and convenience stores.
They take up a bit of space in your suitcase, so I recommend buying them during your stay and having a little taste test at night in your hotel. 😉

I've also written a detailed review on my blog, so check it out here!
