From June 1 to 7, the Hatsukawa stream inside Atami Baien garden hosts a firefly viewing event. Genji firefly larvae released in March have grown into adults, and this brief window is the only time to catch their natural light display. On June 6, the adjacent Sawada Seiko Memorial Museum will open for extended evening hours.

ATAMI Jacaranda Festival 2026
The jacaranda is one of the world's three great flowering trees and marks the beginning of early summer in Atami. Two trees were gifted to the city in 1990 from its Portuguese sister city of Cascais, and today more than 100 jacaranda trees — particularly along the coastal promenade — bloom in shades of blue-violet. During the festival period, bamboo lanterns light up the walking path from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM each evening.

Iza! Spowork Atami Umaimon Walk 10k
The second installment of the "Umaimon Walk" series combines walking, tourism, and local food in a 10km route through Atami. Starting from Atami Chisui Park, participants walk south past landmarks like Ginza-dori shopping street, Kiunkaku villa, and Atami Castle, finishing near Ogawa Park close to Ami Station. Along the way, aid stations serve local specialty foods. Active racewalker Mao Tatemi, originally from Atami, will give a technique clinic. Imanomiya Shrine "Nagoshi Oharae" / Izusan Shrine "Minazuki Oharae"
Held at shrines across Japan on the last day of June and December, Oharae (Great Purification Ceremony) cleanses half a year's worth of impurities and prays for good health in the coming six months. The June ceremony — known as "Nagoshi no Harae" or "Minazuki no Harae" — involves passing through a large ring of miscanthus grass (chinowa) to ward off misfortune. At Imanomiya Shrine, the ring is made of iron, and a fire purification ritual is also held. At Izusan Shrine, the chinowa is available for visitors to pass through through early July.

ATAMI NIGHT WALK — Atami Evening Stroll
A new nighttime experience that launched in April, ATAMI NIGHT WALK is based at "ATAMI NIGHT BASE" inside Himono Dining Kamanari. Hotel guests can enjoy a lottery, yo-yo fishing, and other activities. On Fridays through Sundays, a free guided deep-dive night tour of the city runs with local guides. Handheld fireworks are available for purchase, with hotel guests receiving a 50% discount; fireworks can be set off on nearby San Beach. Seasonal limited events rotate every three months.

Two converted outbuildings on the property now serve as a gallery and a remote-work/reading space. The wooden deck can be used for yoga, exercise, or workshops. Optional farm experience programs and team-building workshops are also available. With fruit trees, vegetables, birdsong, and sea and mountain breezes in every direction, it's a place where relaxation and work can flow naturally into each other.

Dried Fish Making Experience at Himono Dining Kamanari
Hosted by Kamazuru, a long-established dried fish shop with roots in the Edo period, this hands-on workshop teaches participants to make their own himono (Japanese dried fish). Fresh, locally sourced fish is prepared under the guidance of Kamazuru craftspeople — cleaned, opened, washed, and salted — resulting in a finished product in about four hours. The experience is popular as a team-building activity for corporate retreats and school trips, as well as for children's food education.

A hands-on program designed to help participants understand the global issue of ocean plastic pollution through direct experience. After a lecture on the topic, participants head to Atami San Beach to extract microplastics from sand samples using their own hands. The exercise generates a genuine sense of surprise — "There's this much microplastic right here?" — and leads into a beach cleanup that shifts the way participants see their surroundings. Encountering real issues in the field can open up new perspectives on everyday life and work.

Hotel Ohno-ya
Hotel Ohno-ya blends Atami's hot spring culture with the practical needs of a workcation. The facility includes a massive Roman-style bath accommodating up to 300 guests, open-air baths overlooking Sagami Bay, and private baths available 24 hours a day — 10 onsen facilities in total. The buffet restaurant serves approximately 80 different dishes. Meeting rooms can accommodate small groups up to 120 people. Atami no Kakurezato
Located a five-minute walk from Atami Station, Atami no Kakurezato is well suited to corporate retreats and seminar trips. The building, formerly used as a ryokan and corporate retreat facility, features a multi-purpose space accommodating up to 60 people, along with a large communal onsen bath sourced from the Fukufuku no Yu spring near Atami Station.
