The Balvenie, the single malt Scotch whisky brand distributed in Japan by Brown-Forman Japan, is hosting an experiential tasting event called "WHISKY SECRET" at The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Four Special Pairings Exploring the Cask Finish Technique Pioneered by The Balvenie
The Balvenie pioneered the "cask finish (double maturation)" technique in the early 1980s — a method that has since become a global standard. At WHISKY SECRET, guests will taste four expressions, each finished in a different cask to bring out its individual character, accompanied by an explanation of The Balvenie's approach to whisky-making. The lineup includes rare expressions aged 16 and 21 years.
Each whisky is paired with a dish designed specifically for this evening by Executive Chef Jesus Nino of The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo. Guests can enjoy this one-night-only harmony of whisky and fine cuisine against a backdrop of Tokyo's night skyline.

Jesus Nino became Executive Chef at The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo in March 2025. With more than 16 years of experience at luxury hotels and restaurants around the world — including time under three-Michelin-starred chef Martín Berasategui — he brings deep expertise in Mediterranean cuisine and a talent for innovative cooking that showcases seasonal ingredients.
