Question

I'm planning to visit Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki, and I'd love to experience something more local nearby. Do you have any food or places to recommend?

In that case, I highly recommend taking a short trip to Sasebo, which is about 20 minutes by train from Huis Ten Bosch! 🚃
The must-try dish there is definitely the Sasebo Burger 🍔 — a local specialty born in this port town.
It's a hearty burger made with a fluffy bun, juicy beef patty, and a perfectly cooked fried egg on top.

When I visited Sasebo on a business trip, I had one near the harbor right by the station — the view was amazing, and the whole experience was so memorable. ✨

Actually, I had originally planned to try another local favorite, Nagasaki Champon noodles,
but the restaurant happened to be closed that day.
I ended up trying a Sasebo Burger instead, and it turned out to be the perfect choice!

Sasebo's two most famous local dishes are the Sasebo Burger and Nagasaki Champon
both taste extra special when you eat them in their hometown.
I highly recommend enjoying them while taking in the relaxing seaside scenery. 🌅

Here are the restaurant details if you want to visit.

  • 🍜 Koran (香蘭)
A long-standing champon restaurant located on Rokuten Street, right next to Sasebo Station's roundabout.
It's only a short walk from the station, open 10:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and closed on Mondays
(they sometimes close early if they sell out).

  • 🍔 Hamburger Shop HIKARI
A legendary burger shop founded in 1951.
The main shop is in Yatake, but there's also a branch inside the Sasebo Gobangai shopping complex,
located right by the station's Minato Exit — very convenient for travelers!
    That's the one I visited!
