The 2026 vintage of the "Amaou Premium Sparkling Wine" goes on sale on Monday, June 15, 2026. Sold by Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu), this fruit wine is now in its 14th year, having first launched in 2013 as part of the company's initiative to promote six-sector industrialization of agriculture along its railway lines.
The wine uses Amaou strawberries carefully cultivated in Yanagawa, a water-town in the Chikugo region of southern Fukuoka Prefecture. After harvest, the fresh berries are delivered to the Kyoho Winery in Kurume — a producer with over half a century of history at the foot of the Mino mountain range — within two days, ensuring the strawberries retain their freshness throughout the brewing process.
Each 750ml bottle contains approximately 50 Amaou strawberries. The handcrafted "Shizuku-jikomi" (drop brewing) technique brings out the strawberry's distinctive ruby red color along with a rich aroma and flavor. The result is described as a refreshing taste born from the encounter between local agricultural produce and this time-honored brewing method.
The wine has attracted a loyal following year after year, and sales locations are set to expand further in 2026.
