Chocolatier Palet d'Or Launches Valentine 2026 Collection Featuring Japanese Craft Whisky Chocolates

Chocolatier Palet d'Or, operated by Oval Liaison Co., Ltd., will offer two special Valentine chocolate collections for the 2026 season at department store event venues nationwide. The collections highlight Japanese whisky, featuring both craft distillery collaborations and historic Japanese whisky brands.

Japanese Craft Whisky Chocolate Collection

Japanese Craft Whisky Chocolate

Japanese craft whisky captures the unique climate and terroir of different regions across Japan. Each distillery brings its own vision and originality, creating distinctive whiskies throughout the country. Using their house-made chocolate crafted from cacao beans, Palet d'Or has carefully blended each chocolate to enhance the characteristics of individual whiskies, creating a synergy between cacao aroma and whisky notes.

The collection features whiskies aged in diverse natural environments: whisky matured on Yakushima, a World Heritage island; whisky from Akkeshi, Hokkaido, with distinctive peat aromas influenced by local terroir; and mellow whisky made from Kagoshima-grown barley that's been malted in-house. This chocolate box encapsulates the flavors shaped by regional natural environments. Experience the marriage of whisky and chocolate, where the depth and lingering finish of each complement one another.

About the Featured Distilleries

Venture Whisky Chichibu Distillery / Saitama Prefecture

Chichibu Distillery

Founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, who began distillation the same year. "Ichiro's Malt" has gained worldwide recognition and high praise both domestically and internationally. The distillery can be considered a driving force behind the current Japanese whisky boom and the rise of craft distilleries in Japan.

In 2019, Chichibu's second distillery became operational, and in 2020, they released "Chichibu The First Ten," a 10-year expression. Their strength includes managing everything from purchasing mizunara oak to barrel-making in-house.

SAKURAO DISTILLERY / Hiroshima Prefecture

Bottle Used: Single Malt Japanese Whisky Sakurao Sherry Cask

SAKURAO DISTILLERY

Sakurao Brewery and Distillery was founded in 1918. They began whisky production in 1958. After a temporary pause, they established SAKURAO DISTILLERY in 2017 to explore new possibilities in whisky and spirits production, resuming whisky manufacturing.

Starting in 2019, they also produce grain whisky. In 2021, they released their first single malts, "Sakurao" and "Togouchi." They also produce gin using local Hiroshima botanicals. The company's future releases are highly anticipated, leveraging over 100 years of inherited distillation techniques.

Kanosuke Distillery / Kagoshima Prefecture

Bottle Used: Kanosuke Single Malt KAGOSHIMA EXCLUSIVE

Kanosuke Distillery

KANOSUKE is a next-generation craft Japanese whisky from Kagoshima. Founded in 2017 by Yoshitsugu Komasa, fourth-generation head of Komasa Jozo, which has been making shochu in Hioki, Kagoshima, for 140 years, the distillery bears his grandfather Kanosuke's name. They pursue a mellow, aromatic taste nurtured by the sea breeze of Fukiagehama, the longest beach in Japan, combining shochu distillation and aging expertise with innovative thinking. This edition features a limited single malt with distinct fruity notes characteristic of the southern region, made from Kagoshima-grown barley malted in-house.

Honbo Shuzo Mars Whisky / Kagoshima Prefecture

Bottle Used: MARS The Y.A. #4 (Yakushima Aging)

Mars Whisky

Honbo Shuzo obtained its whisky production license in 1949. In 1985, they established the Mars Komagatake Distillery in Miyata Village, Nagano Prefecture. In 2016, they opened the Mars Tsunuki Distillery in Minamisatsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture, their company's birthplace. The same year, they established an aging cellar on Yakushima, a World Heritage island, creating a system with two distilleries and three aging locations. They produce single malts "Komagatake" and "Tsunuki," along with various other whiskies, winning numerous awards at the annual TWSC (Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition).

Akkeshi Distillery / Hokkaido

Bottle Used: Akkeshi Single Malt Japanese Whisky Rikka (Beginning of Summer)

Akkeshi Distillery

Founded in Akkeshi Town, eastern Hokkaido, known as an oyster production area. They began test aging in 2013 and started distillation in 2016. Their production water comes from soft water that passes through peat layers in the nearby Homakai River. They also use locally-grown Akkeshi two-row barley, incorporating the terroir of Akkeshi Town into their whisky-making. Since 2020, they've been releasing single malts in their "Twenty-Four Solar Terms Series" based on Japanese seasons, capturing the attention of whisky enthusiasts.

Japanese Whisky Collection

Japanese Whisky Collection

Japanese whisky has a history spanning over 100 years.

As one of the world's five major whisky-producing regions alongside Scotch, Irish, American, and Canadian whiskies, Japanese whisky expresses delicate flavors born from Japan's meticulous craftsmanship. Each distillery creates its own rich character.

Using their house-made chocolate crafted from cacao beans, they've carefully balanced the blend to highlight each whisky's characteristics in every piece of chocolate.

Experience the profound taste of whisky with the roasted aroma of cacao, from the powerful, robust Yoichi to the floral, fruity Miyagikyo and the forest-scented Hakushu.
