DEAN & DELUCA Okayama Releases New Year Shiruko Drinks - Matcha and Black Sesame Flavors Starting December 26

DEAN & DELUCA Okayama, located in Mori no Machi Grace in downtown Okayama (Shimoishii, Kita-ku, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture), will release winter seasonal drinks from December 26, 2025. The lineup includes "Goma Shiruko" and "Matcha Shiruko" - limited-time offerings for the winter season - along with "Yuzu Ginger Apple," a yuzu-scented winter classic.

New Black Sesame Flavor Joins the Celebratory Shiruko Lineup

The "Celebratory Shiruko" makes its annual return as an end-of-year treat. These hand-held sweet drinks reinterpret traditional shiruko - a confection long associated with welcoming the New Year in Japan - with DEAN & DELUCA's signature ingredients and flavor profiles. This year's lineup features two varieties: a new black sesame flavor and the beloved matcha.

The Goma Shiruko draws inspiration from "zhī ma hú" (芝麻糊), a dessert popular in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, China. It offers the distinctive aroma of black sesame combined with the mellow richness of peanuts.

Alongside these, the winter staple Yuzu Ginger Apple hot drink also returns. Seasonal apples, yellow yuzu, and ginger are simmered slowly in a large pot, creating a drink that balances the sweet-tart flavors of the fruit with yuzu's fragrance and ginger's refreshing spice.

The year-end and New Year period often brings changes to daily routines through gatherings, travel, and homecomings. During such times, a carefully chosen cup at a cafe can provide a moment of reset and bring small comforts to everyday life. DEAN & DELUCA offers both celebratory sweets that enhance the New Year atmosphere and warming drinks that heat the body from within, proposing a "time to savor" during the holidays.

Welcoming the New Year with Celebratory Shiruko

The "Celebratory Shiruko" series takes inspiration from Japan's longstanding New Year sweet traditions, crafted to highlight the natural flavors of quality ingredients. The black sesame variety offers an intensely aromatic experience, while the matcha version delivers the direct umami of tea leaves. Both are prepared with white bean paste and soy milk for a smooth, gentle sweetness that allows the premium Japanese ingredients to shine.

The newly introduced Goma Shiruko pays homage to "zhī ma hú" (芝麻糊), a popular dessert in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, China. The essence of "tāng yuán" (湯圓) - Taiwanese rice dumplings filled with various pastes - is represented through peanut accents. From the moment you hold the cup, the rich aroma of sesame fills the air. This drink uses 100% domestically produced and processed black sesame, a rare ingredient.

Experience the intense flavor, aroma, and color of Japanese black sesame.

Yuzu-Scented Winter Classic Drink

The winter-perfect homemade juice returns, made by simmering seasonal apples, yuzu, and ginger in a large pot in-store. This hot fruit and ginger juice features the refreshing flavor of seasonal yellow yuzu. Since it's made fresh from ingredients daily, the store fills with the soothing aroma of yuzu.

By cutting the yuzu in half, the juice gradually seeps out from the cut surface, allowing you to enjoy an even richer yuzu flavor. Fresh ginger is added to warm the body, providing a crisp, refreshing spiciness.
