New Izu Lemon Cider Launches in Shizuoka's Izu Region - A Refreshing Taste of Local Citrus

Kimura Beverage Co., Ltd., a Shizuoka-based beverage manufacturer known for creating regional specialty ciders under the slogan "Bringing Joy to Beverages," has announced the launch of Izu Lemon Cider. This new product features the "Izu Lemon," a specialty citrus from Shizuoka's Izu and eastern regions. Sales begin January 16, 2026 (Friday) at retail stores across Japan and through the company's direct online shop.

Featuring Locally Grown Izu Lemons from Shizuoka's Rich Natural Environment

This regional cider uses juice from "Izu Lemon," a newly established lemon brand grown in the Izu and eastern areas of Shizuoka Prefecture. The lemons are carefully squeezed using a gentle process that minimizes stress on the peel, reducing bitterness and astringency while bringing out the fruit's natural sweetness. The refreshing aroma and natural acidity harmonize with the pleasant carbonation, creating a clean mouthfeel with a refreshing aftertaste that lingers.

About Izu Lemon

"Izu Lemon" is a new lemon brand cultivated in the eastern region of Shizuoka Prefecture, including Atami City, Ito City, Numazu City, Fuji City, and Mishima City, which are blessed with warm climates. Since Atami City is recognized as the birthplace of domestically grown lemons in Japan[1], JA Fuji Izu launched a production promotion project in fiscal year 2023 to develop this regional specialty.

Based on traditional cultivation methods from the Meiji era when domestic lemon production began, the project employs natural farming practices utilizing fish meal and natural substances. All producers have obtained Shizuoka Prefecture's "Midori Certification," practicing environmentally friendly agriculture.

As aging farmers and lack of successors pose challenges to regional agriculture, this initiative promotes sustainable agriculture and aims to improve producer income. The Izu Lemon Council was established in fiscal year 2024, and currently 47 producers are engaged in cultivation.
