Tokyo Station Hotel's Award-Winning Moksei Cocktail Blends Tradition and Innovation

Tokyo Station Hotel, located within the majestic Tokyo Station Marunouchi building and celebrating its 110th anniversary last year, recently held an in-house original cocktail competition. This competition was conducted in conjunction with the "Classic Hotel Cocktail Fair 2025" by the Japan Classic Hotel Association, under the theme "A Gem of a Drink that Evokes Tradition and History." Eleven staff members from the Food and Beverage Department competed, and one exceptional cocktail was selected.

The judging followed the format of official cocktail competitions, with scoring across five categories: naming, taste, appearance, reproducibility, and originality. Tokyo Station Hotel has long cherished legendary cocktails such as the "Tokyo Station" and the "1915," which was created for the hotel's 100th anniversary. Through this competition, the hotel aims to foster the next generation of bartenders, refine their skills, and create new signature cocktails, thereby enhancing the unique experiences that only Tokyo Station Hotel can offer.

Moksei

Tanqueray London Dry Gin | Chartreuse Jaune | Orange Juice | Osmanthus Syrup | Lime, Lemon, and Orange Peels

Moksei Cocktail

Moksei shares the same pronunciation as Jupiter (Mokusei), the planet. Jupiter's symbolic meanings include "expansion" and "development," representing powerful forward-looking energy. Additionally, osmanthus flowers carry meanings: golden osmanthus symbolizes "modesty" and "noble person," while silver osmanthus represents "integrity." When someone holds this drink, they may choose whether the planetary message speaks to their feelings today, or which flower language they identify with. This ability to accompany each person's unique story and moment is what we consider true hospitality.

This cocktail, finished in a warm orange hue, combines the gentle fragrance of osmanthus with the rich sweetness of liqueur and the crisp sharpness of gin, with subtle herbal notes spreading throughout. Tokyo Station Hotel, like the osmanthus that quietly fragrances the autumn air, is modest yet exudes elegance and a solid presence. Even after celebrating 110 years, we remain humble rather than boasting of our magnificent building and history. We hold our responsibilities and pride nobly and continue to strive forward. This cocktail embodies these sentiments.

About the Japan Classic Hotel Association

The Japan Classic Hotel Association (established in 2017) is a collaboration of nine historic hotels across Japan, working together to preserve and pass on architectural value, hospitality culture, and stories woven with local communities. Each member hotel transcends the role of mere accommodation, deeply connecting with regional culture and history while supporting the landscape and people's lives. They feature impressive architectural beauty, hospitality passed down through generations, and fascinating episodes involving renowned guests and cultural figures.

These hotels maintain and preserve buildings constructed before World War II, undergoing renovations and restorations while earning recognition as cultural properties and industrial heritage sites. Currently, the association comprises nine hotels: Nikko Kanaya Hotel, Fujiya Hotel, Mampei Hotel, Nara Hotel, Tokyo Station Hotel, Hotel New Grand, Gamagori Classic Hotel, Unzen Kanko Hotel, and Kawana Hotel.

Tokyo Station Hotel

Bar & Café Camellia

Born as a bar when the hotel reopened in 1951, it was beloved as Bar "Camellia" by many guests. When the hotel reopened in 2012, the concept, location, and interior were completely renewed. It now serves as a bar and café where you can enjoy hearty dishes and original cocktails created by bartenders, suitable for various occasions.

The interior features dark pink accent table seating and a counter where you can watch bartenders craft cocktails, creating a calm atmosphere. There's also a passage area overlooking the scenery outside. The menu offers dinner courses, à la carte dishes, afternoon tea, the hotel's traditional beef stew, and a rich selection of drinks including signature cocktails "Tokyo Station" and "1915," as well as original mocktail recipes. It's recommended not only for hotel guests but also for gatherings among women or groups.

Tokyo Station Hotel

Tokyo Station Hotel opened in 1915 within the Tokyo Station Marunouchi building, welcoming many distinguished guests from Japan and abroad with its magnificent architecture and cutting-edge facilities. After the station building was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 2003, the hotel temporarily closed in 2006 for preservation and restoration work. Following a complete renovation of all facilities, it reopened in 2012 as a sophisticated urban hotel with 150 European-classic-themed rooms, 10 restaurants and bars, fitness and spa facilities, and banquet halls.

Inheriting over a century of history, the hotel operates under the concept "Classic Luxury: Quality Moments Loved Across Generations," providing unique hotel experiences through "Empathetic Hospitality" that resonates with guests' hearts. As a hotel where you can stay within an Important Cultural Property and the second-oldest existing hotel in Tokyo, Tokyo Station Hotel boasts an ideal location adjacent to Tokyo Station, offering convenient access throughout the metropolitan area and nationwide.
