Kuranoma, a fully reservation-only restaurant tucked inside "Unagi Ryori Edogawa Naramachi" in the historic Naramachi district of Nara, is refreshing its kaiseki course on July 1, 2026 (Wednesday) and launching a new lunch-only course at the same time.
The restaurant occupies the original merchant storehouse (misegura) of a townhouse built more than 140 years ago. Only two parties are accepted per session — at lunch and at dinner — making each booking an intimate, unhurried experience. Edogawa's craftsmen prepare everything at the table; the aromas, sizzle, and rising steam from the kitchen become part of the meal itself, drawing guests into a world far removed from everyday life.
The refreshed courses put eel center stage from beginning to end, drawing on the long-standing techniques Edogawa has refined over the years.
